Q: HOW MUCH TIME DO WE HAVE FOR OUR FAMILY PORTRAIT?
We focus our time with you and your family to make sure everyone gets comfortable and has fun together. Our Creative Packages range from an hour to two hours. When choosing a Creative Package we just want to make sure you have ample time for taking breaks, reviewing the images and selecting your favorites.
Q: HOW MANY FAMILY MEMBERS CAN YOU PHOTOGRAPH IN YOUR STUDIO?
Families come in all shapes and sizes, so we do not have a set limit to how many we photograph. But it’s fair to say that we can comfortably fit 15 people, however, we have had up to 30 all in one portrait.
Q: HOW MANY FAMILY MEMBERS CAN YOU PHOTOGRAPH OUTSIDE AT OUR HOME?
If you are outdoors and have the room for everyone at your home, we can photograph a larger number of family members and pets all together in the same photo. Depending on what is required to make the image, we will use available light, strobe lighting, and possible a mix of both types. We may also bring along a high ladder to shoot from so each person can be seen. You may want to do small family groupings as well which allows for each family to have full length and close up images.
Q: IF WE HAVE A FAMILY MEMBER ON A TIGHT SCHEDULE, WILL YOU PHOTOGRAPH THEM FIRST?
Yes. That is one of the first questions we ask after everyone gets together at the photo shoot. We understand how busy your lives are and want everyone to be included in this important portrait.
Q: HOW FAR WILL YOU TRAVEL?
We are geared for short trips as well as longer ones. Darren has traveled as far as Madagascar for a client, so whether you want something hours away, or right around the corner, we can make it happen.
Q: HOW DO I PREPARE MY CHILDREN FOR THE PHOTO SHOOT?
One of the easiest ways to prepare your children for the photo shoot is getting a good nights rest and making sure everyone is well fed before your photo shoot. We recommend mentioning to your younger children that we are going to “play” with the creative team at the studio or on location.
Q: I’M LOOKING FOR A NATURAL SMILE NOT A FAKE ONE. HOW WILL YOU GET OUR CHILDREN TO HAVE A NATURAL SMILE?
We have a natural way of having fun on a photo shoot. We bring out the real smile even for those children known for a fake or cheesy smile, because we get them laughing and having fun! From our experience we have found if the parents let the kids be kids for a little bit, the stress level goes down and the fun begins. The mood is light, playful and they forget about that fake smile.
Q: WHAT DO YOU EXPECT PARENTS TO DO DURING A PHOTO SHOOT?
We are all working together as a team and your help in letting us know what garners great reactions is really important to us. This is a special moment so we encourage you to give hugs and kisses, laugh out loud, and be as silly with the children here as you are at home. This helps set a festive and happy mood, which can go a long way on a photo shoot.
Q: WHO IS WELCOME AT THE PHOTO SHOOT?
You are welcome to bring aunts, uncles, grandparents and anyone else who is important in your life. We have learned that family portraits don’t happen as often as they did decades ago so we feel it’s important to really consider bringing along the people who matter to you. We can create large extended family photos to intimate couples portraits and everything in between. All of this can take place on photo shoots at Willow Street Pictures.
Q: DO YOU EVER SCHEDULE EVENING APPOINTMENTS FOR A PHOTO SHOOT?
As much as we want to be flexible and accommodate that type of request, experience shows that it produces images where everyone looks tired from a long day of work or a long day at school. After putting in 8 or 10 hours at work or in the classroom you simply don’t look fresh and your energy level is low.
Q: DO YOU OFFER WEEKENDS PHOTO SHOOTS?
Absolutely! This works especially well for larger and extended family portraits.
Q: WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR AND HOW SHOULD WE DRESS?
We help you with these important details at your consultation with our Portrait Consultant. She is great at listening, making suggestions and providing you with a custom designed consultation booklet that’s exclusive to our clients.
Until we learn more, our best suggestion is to bring along wardrobe you feel comfortable wearing and to avoid large patterns or large horizontal stripes in your wardrobe.
Q: WE ARE AVID SPORTS FANS. CAN WE BRING ALONG SPORTS JERSEYS AND GET A FAMILY PORTRAIT WEARING THEM?
We encourage our sports fans to bring everything they have to their photo shoot. This is what makes it personal and allows us to capture the real personality of the family. On one of our photo shoots, we had a wife wearing her Eagles jersey and the husband wearing his Dallas jersey. We came up with the idea of them jumping in the air doing a chest bump together. It was as lot of fun and captured the spirit of their sports rivalry.
Q: CAN WE WEAR FORMAL AND CHANGE TO CASUAL WARDROBE?
Yes. We have families all the time that want to include both styles of wardrobe.
Q: WILL IT BE AN ISSUE IF A FAMILY MEMBER WEARS GLASSES?
In the studio we have control over our lighting. We are trained and experienced with this equipment to minimize glare on eyeglasses. Having said that, there are times when everything is moving around quickly and some glare from the flash does appear on the eyeglasses. In that case, the touch up option can mostly fix it.
If we are outside and a family member is wearing transition lenses, which automatically change to sunglasses and go dark, you might want to talk with them about this issue in advance. Most people have another pair of glasses or sometimes they simply don’t wear them for the photo shoot. Having said that, they might just want to wear them and we should be grateful they showed up for the portrait and not make a fuss over it. However things work out, we just roll with it.
